Luz Mely Reyes es la co-fundadora de Efecto Cocuyo de Venezuela.
La periodista ha desarrollado su carrera desde el reportaje hasta la gerencia y formación de equipos periodísticos de alto nivel. Dirigió el Diario 2001 y fue jefa de la Unidad de Investigación del diario Últimas Noticias y la Cadena Capriles. Además, es una apasionada de los avances tecnológicos aplicados al periodismo.
Ha develado hechos de corrupción, ha sido editora de coberturas electorales y es autora de la columna Politikom. Por sus años de carrera, le ha tocado estar en la mira de los poderosos, ocasionándole citaciones ante la Fiscalía y ataques por parte de altos funcionarios del gobierno venezolano. Su respuesta ante tales agresiones ha sido: más y mejor periodismo.
En 2014 fue galardonada con el Victory Awards, mérito al periodismo político latinoamericano.
En 2018 fue reconocido como una “persona del año” por la revista TIME en “Los guardianes”, su tributo a periodistas luchando para proteger la democracia y la libertad de información.
Luz Mely Reyes is the Co-founder of Efecto Cocuyo in Venezuela.
As a journalist, her career evolved from reporting to managing high-level journalistic teams. She directed the newspaper Diario 2001 and was head of the investigative reporting units for both the Últimas Noticias and Cadena Capriles newspapers.
She is passionate about technological developments applied to journalism, has uncovered acts of corruption, been the editor of election coverage and is the author of the Politikom column. Throughout her career, she has been in the spotlight, receiving subpoenas from the Attorney General’s office and attacks from high-ranking Venezuelan government officials. Her response to such aggressions has been to do more and better journalism.
In 2014 she was awarded with the Victory Awards, an honor for Latin American political journalism. In 2018 she was recognized as a “person of the year” by TIME magazine in “The Guardians,” their tribute to journalists fighting to protect democracy and freedom of information.
