The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) works to build peace through international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication and information. UNESCO’s programs contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.
GFMD is a leading global community for media development, media freedom and journalism support. Through collaboration, coordination and collective action, its network of 147 member organisations —as well as dozens of partners— creates, promotes and delivers policies and programmes to sustain journalism as a public good. GFMD envisages a world in which democracy, human rights and sustainable development benefit from a pluralistic and informed public sphere underpinned by free, independent and viable public-interest media and journalism.
The EJC is a nonprofit foundation based in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Founded in 1992, it has been working independently to support, strengthen and develop journalism in Europe. The EJC believes that resilient, inclusive and progressive media not only delivers better journalism, but also produces many forms of public benefit that make governments and societies function better and strengthen democracy.
IMS is one of the largest media development organizations in the Nordic region. It works in more than 30 countries across four continents, promoting press freedom, good journalism and safety for journalists. IMS aims to create safer media environments with sound laws for journalists in countries where press freedom and other human rights are in dire straits. Its work is based on long-term engagements tailored to the local country contexts in which it seeks to make a difference, always in partnership with local and international media actors.
The MJRC is an independent media research and policy think tank which seeks to improve the quality of media policymaking and the state of independent media and journalism through research, knowledge sharing and financial support. MJRC continues the work of the Center for Media, Data & Society (CMDS), which until October 2022 operated as a unit of Central European University (CEU).
Ajor
The Ajor (Digital Journalism Association) is a Brazilian nonprofit organization that represents more than 150 media outlets. Its mission is to foster the journalistic ecosystem in Brazil, strengthening its members and defending a freer, more diverse and plural press. Ajor’s activities are divided into three axes: promotion of entrepreneurship, defense of journalism and democracy and focus on diversity.
Code for Africa
CfA is Africa’s largest nonprofit network of digital democracy laboratories, with over 140 full-time forensic researchers, data scientists, technologists (both software and hardware), digital storytellers and peer-mentor trainers working in support of watchdog civil society and investigative media partners in 26 African countries.

DPA is one of the peak bodies for Australia’s leading independent publishers, representing over 120 of the country’s top media titles. Established in 2022, the DPA seeks to connect, support and protect a vibrant cross-section of digital publishers who reach a large majority of the Australian population every day.
Local and Independent News Association
LINA is a nonprofit industry association supporting a movement of Australian local and independent digital newsrooms. It provides direct support and representation to help newsrooms increase the diversity, quality and relevance of news services in communities across Australia. LINA aims to grow existing and encourage new independent media entrants.

RSF works to uphold freedom, pluralism, and independence in journalism, and to protect those who embody these ideals. Its annual World Press Freedom Index measures the state of press freedom in 180 countries.
The JSK Fellowship supports journalists who are committed to exploring solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the field worldwide. Innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership in journalism are key pillars of its mission to improve the quality of news and information reaching the public.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation is part of Thomson Reuters, the global news and information services company. It works to advance press freedom, raise awareness of human rights, and promote more inclusive economies. Through journalism, media development, free legal assistance, and other initiatives, the foundation leverages its services to drive systemic change.
