Support SembraMedia’s work to empower independent journalism
From Bogota to Buenos Aires, from Tijuana to Rio de Janeiro, entrepreneurial journalists are exposing corruption, harnessing social media to increase citizen participation, and publishing investigations that motivate governments and big businesses to be more transparent.
These media leaders risk their lives and their livelihoods to inform their communities. We work to strengthen their capacity and to help them to build more sustainable, editorially independent news organizations.
With your support, SembraMedia can continue to provide mentorship, training, and support to these vital news leaders in Latin America, the U.S., and Spain.

Support SembraMedia’s work to empower independent journalism
What your donation makes possible
Your support will help more journalists, leaders, and independent digital media outlets access the research, training, connections, and strategic guidance they need to strengthen their sustainability and editorial independence.
Visibility and connection for independent media
SembraMedia works with a network of local Digital Media Specialists who understand the challenges digital media outlets face in their countries.
Your support sustains this essential network, enabling us to map community needs, deliver targeted opportunities, share critical resources, and bring visibility to independent outlets working outside the mainstream spotlight.
Ongoing research and media mapping
Strengthening independent journalism requires a deep understanding of its needs.
Your support helps sustain our research and media directories that map the evolving digital media industry. These knowledge-sharing resources help journalists and content creators, funders, academics, and others track key trends, challenges, and opportunities.
Accessible training for media leaders
Through workshops, interactive webinars, and the SembraMedia Virtual School, we provide practical training in Spanish on sustainability, business models, audience development, technology, and management.
Your support ensures that more leaders can continue their professional development while building stronger, more resilient newsrooms.

Proven, measurable impact
At SembraMedia, we rigorously track our outcomes and publish annual reports so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Fill a critical gap
Latin America receives a fraction of global journalism philanthropy—and as international funding priorities shift, that gap is growing. Your donation provides support that doesn’t depend on those decisions.
Build lasting capacity
SembraMedia strengthens the operational and financial core of independent newsrooms. Participants of our programs don’t just increase revenue, they diversify the sources, which contributes to long-term sustainability and resilience.
Community-rooted model
In survey after survey, 99% of our program participants say they would recommend us to their peers. Our approach is built with and for the journalists we serve, and we adapt our programs to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Journalism as infrastructure
Strong democracies require informed citizens. Supporting journalism is one of the highest-leverage investments you can make in civic life.
Testimonials of our work
“I had the opportunity to hear media management experiences from female colleagues representing independent outlets in Venezuela, Argentina, and Ecuador, across different regions. I valued the diversity of both the media experiences and the people who attended the workshop. I hope there will be more spaces for exchange so we can learn how to manage our small newsrooms.”

Agencia Presentes (Argentina)
“We were able to gain and apply the tools needed to build sustainability into our outlet, improve our organizational structure, and launch a new product to reach new audiences. (…) Both the mentorship and the webinars were essential to understanding the media ecosystem and learning how to survive efficiently, intelligently, and without ever losing our creativity.”
Tomás García Álvarez

Revista Efecto (Chile)
“I only had the courage to launch my podcast thanks to the SembraMedia course. I had been dreaming about it since last year, but after taking that course, where I understood production logistics, it was just a matter of sitting down and executing. Maybe the key was losing the fear. Understanding the structure and getting tips to make it flow smoothly helped me lose that fear and realize I could do it myself.”

FAQ
How is my donation used?
Your donation supports SembraMedia’s operations: the team, research infrastructure, our virtual school, and organizational capacity that make our initiatives possible. Institutional grants fund specific projects; individual donations help us fund the organization itself, giving us the flexibility and stability that restricted funding rarely provides.
Does my donation go directly to journalists or news organizations?
Not directly. SembraMedia’s subgrant programs are funded through institutional grants from foundations and partner organizations. Your donation supports the organization that designs, manages, and sustains those programs—and the team behind them.
Can I direct my donation to a specific program?
In most cases, individual donations support SembraMedia’s general operations. If you’re interested in funding a specific initiative or program, please reach out to us at contacto@sembramedia.org to discuss options.
Is my donation tax-deductible in the United States?
Yes. SembraMedia is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States. Donations made by U.S. taxpayers are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. European donors should consult with a local tax advisor regarding deductibility in their country. Upon request, we can provide a letter verifying your contributions for tax purposes.
Are donations from outside the U.S. accepted?
Yes. We accept donations from donors worldwide. Donors outside the U.S. should be aware that SembraMedia is a U.S.-registered nonprofit, and local tax treatment will vary. We recommend consulting a local tax advisor regarding deductibility in your jurisdiction.
